The fountain, which is still used today to cool off from the summer heat, was built in 1844. It was constructed using Botticino marble; the original design called for a statue of a swan atop the fountain. The swan was created but was destroyed in the 20th century. As a result, the original design was modified, and a pinecone was placed atop the fountain. It was conceived as a monumental fountain, consisting of a circular base with a recessed basin that follows the shape of the base and ends with a rounded edge. Two pairs of iron rods are preserved within the basin to support buckets. In the center stands a circular-based monument that rises from a decoration of water leaves and culminates in a cornice with carved opposing volutes.
